Fujifilm GFX100/GFX100S: Optimizing Depth of Field Placement for Landscape Photography

Depth of field is rarely adequate for landscape photography unless the scene is all at far distance. This page looks at two choices of focus position and how that plays-out for sharpness on the near and far areas. A 2-frame focus stack is included as well.

Advice is given on an automated way to obtain single-shot sharpness better than one is likely to obtain by manually choosing the point of focus.

Example —  Aspen and Willows Along Lee Vining Creek

I wanted the leading aspen trunk (just right of center) fully sharp top to bottom, tricky even at f/11 given its angle relative to the camera. Focusing on it would guarantee its sharpness at f/11, but give away sharpness on the more distant areas, including the trees and brush and grass on the shoreline near the water.
