Aperture Series: Bare Tree Along Alpine Creek

This finely-detailed outdoor scene takes a look at sharpness across the field, color aberration, and whether the focus shift seen at close range applies to a scene like this. The subtle presence of moiré is also examined.

Bare Tree Along Alpine Creek

Adobe Camera Raw 9.8.0.692. View ACR settings.

Diffraction mitigating sharpening used for f/9 (minimal) and f/12 (aggressive).

Total image quality on a scene like this is extremely difficult for a lower-resolution camera (24 megapixels or less), because many if not most scene details here would turn to mush due to lack of sensor resolution: fine twigs, bark and moss, etc. Combined with spatial aliasing effects, the results just do not work. The 50 megapixels of the Hasselblad X1D are just sufficient to succeed, but I would prefer something close to 100 megapixels for a scene like this, if only to avoid aliasing effects.
