Flare Control

The Hasselblad XCD 30mm f/3.5 is a highly corrected lens with 11 elements in 10 groups. Its flare control should be exemplary, but it has some real limitations as the example shows.

Ghosting flares

The lens was spotless and no filters were used.

The streaking emanating from the sun/tree is to be expected (diffraction effects), but the rainbow ghosting and other ghosts are more than one might hope for.

The first ghosting flare is par for the course, but the large rainbow ghosting flare and its surrounding bright halo of veiling flare is more than one might hope to have to deal with. It could problematic if one wants to shoot into the sun in backlighting situations.
