Introduction to Adapting Lenses to Fujifilm GFX: Overview and Experience with Zeiss DSLR Lenses (July 2019)
The Fujifilm GFX can use just about any lens from any format via a lens adapter. Imagine being able to use all sorts of lenses you might already own! In this article I give an overview of adapting lenses and what to expect and look for in imaging quality from 35mm format lenses, followed by my sentiments on the matter, which are based on testing many of my Zeiss DSLR lenses on the GFX-50S.
The first consideration is attaching/adapting a lens to the GFX. Lenses without an aperture ring require electronic adapters to control the aperture and generally cost more and might have reliability issues, whereas “dumb” mechanical adapters are relatively inexpensive and rely for aperture control on the aperture ring on the lens itself. Thus Zeiss DSLR lenses for Nikon F-mount are great candidates, because the aperture control ring on the lens offers full aperture control right on the lens itself.
