Pentax 645D

Blur from the Shutter at 300mm

This page shows how the shutter itself can blur the image, even when mirror lockup is used. The example here is from the series with the Pentax 67 300mm f/4.

The 300mm lens was mounted with a lens plate on the lens itself, the only appropriate mounting technique for a large and heavy lens (as opposed to the camera body). This is never quite as stable as a smaller lens with the camera itself mounted in the head, but it’s what one must do with a heavy lens (see Making Sharp Images). The tripod was a Gitzo 3540XLS, along with the Arca Swiss Cube head.
