30-megapixel Canon EOS R
Canon RF 28-70mm f/2L

Aperture Series @ 40mm, 70mm: Night Lights

Two series on this page evaluate the Canon RF 28-70mm f/2L at 40mm and 70mm on the 30-megapixel Canon EOS R with lights at night, looking for just how good the point spread function is along with correction for secondary color.

Night lights @ 40mm

Lateral chromatic aberration corrected. Shadows boosted to reveal detail.

At f/2 not everything can be exactly in focus and yet so much is sharp across the frame and from the deck chairs into the building that it is quite impressive. The only real fault to be seen are faint traces of violet fringing on the lights towards the right, but these might be slightly out of focus and this disappears at f/2.8. There is nothing meaningfull to criticize beyond that.
