Can the relatively compact Olympus 60mm f/2.8 ED macro deliver image quality up to the level of the Olympus SHG 35-100mm f/2 ED?

This comparison is followed with a second test utilizing a second sample of the 60/2.8, since this sample used here was shown to be a “bad sample” with a skewed focus.

The Olympus SHG 35-100mm f/2 ED is about as good as it gets for Micro Four Thirds— a very large and heavy reference lens whose imaging quality can be matched perhaps, but not exceeded, at least as of late 2012.
