Aperture Series: Pine Creek Mine and Waterfall, Dusk (28mm)
This aperture series show us the X Vario lens performance, but also hints at the limits of sensor dynamic range, which has its limits (12 bits).
Shot at 18mm zoom setting (28mm full-frame equivalent field of view).
ISO 100. The f/16 frame was inadvertency overexposed by one stop and was pulled one stop during raw conversion with only minor ill effects (the sky color).
Exposure
Examination of the raw file using RawDigger shows that this example exceeds the dynamic range of the sensor: some shadows are pinned and some highlights are lost in the blue and green channels. On balance, minimal highlight detail was lost (none important) and a modest amount of shadow detail was lost, also not important for this image. View info.
