Nikon NIKKOR Z 50mm f/1.8 S

MTF for Nikon NIKKOR Z 50mm f/1.8

With the debut of the Nikon Z system and the Nikon Z7 with its sensor needing 116 lp/mm, Nikon continues to promulgate the same inappropriate 10 and 30 lp/mm MTF charts it has for years, and for only one aperture (wide open) and without specifying spectral balance. Net/net the MTF chart offers limited insight versus charts from Zeiss with white light made measured from actual lenses. Still, the chart is suggestive of performance at 40 lp/mm and beyond.

The MTF chart for the Nikon NIKKOR Z 50mm f/1.8 S shows exceptional flatline performance wide open at f/1.8 cross the entire field, excepting the extreme corners which drop off slightly. Overall contrast for coarse structures looks to be world class—an important characteristic for a 3D lifelike feel.

Astigmatism is strictly controlled and field flatness is superbly low. The Nikon NIKKOR Z 50mm f/1.8S promises exceptional performance.
