Three lenses were used, see the data in the caption for each image. The lens and aperture clearly a limiting factor in the result, with f/6.3 the practical aperture limit if one wants the resolution benefits. The noise benefits and other sampling benefits accrue with more stopping down, but sharpness is quickly lost at f/8 and beyond.
Shooting and processing
A 32 megapixel size was chosen, because in image after image, it was hard to discern any benefit to going to 40 megapixels. Also, 32 megapixels is twice the native number of pixels (√2 linearly) and highly satisfactory for very well controlled noise, and very good sharpness.
