HighRes Sensor Shift Mode vs Standard Resolution, NOISE (Mining Artifacts)

See the resolution comparison for a discussion of hi-res versus standard resolution modes: file sizes, processing, etc.

This page compares hi-res mode versus standard-res mode with the primary goal of examining noise. In previous outings while shooting in bluish mountain light as here, your author observed that noise became a serious weakness of the Olympus sensor even at base ISO and with an ideal exposure.

This scene is exactly that type of noisy sensor situation, and thus makes a superb example to demonstrate how hi-res mode can massively improve the noise behavior, even using an ideal ETTR (expose to the right) exposure. See also the ETTR area in DAP.
