Sigma DP-1 Merrill

Autofocus Accuracy

The greatest impediment to a sharp image with any camera or lens is autofocus.

Many camera have trouble focusing on 3D subjects, and the Sigma DP1 Merrill is no exception. The use of manual focus is mandatory in some situations (zoom in)— this can be difficult in some lighting, one more reason an EVF would be helpful.

It would be possible and useful to have a focusing confirmation visual indicator when AF was achieved; then one could see what had been selected; perhaps the focused upon image area could briefly go brighter or some similar unambiguous effect (edge enhancement remains ambiguous on scenes like those here).
