The DP Merrill cameras deliver bitingly sharp detail down to the pixel level. That is their raison d'être along with all the associated usage hassles. But that was at least a clear-cut decision point and your author considers them a classic in terms of image quality and operation—serious tools.

The dp2 Quattro abandons the pixel-level micro detail tradition in favor of a new sensor design which simply cannot render textural detail approaching the DP Merrill line; the dp2Q performs much more like a Bayer matrix sensor.
