Sigma dp2 Quattro

dp2 Quattro Green Flare

The DP2 Merrill utilizes a tightly optimized rectangular lens hood inspiring confidence that non-image-forming light will be effectively blocked.

The dp2 Quattro makes a 180° turn from the ideal rectangular tight-fitting lens hood of the DP2M to an awkwardly large circular lens hood that is all but worthless in blocking extraneous light.

That this is so can be seen by intruding a finger over the lens shade; even in the corners a good 10mm or so of finger can be inserted into the area of the lens shade without it becoming visible in the frame.

Away from the corners, much more finger can intrude without showing in the frame. Obviously, light has no trouble finding these same angles including the sun or sky or other bright light sources. Nor can a circular lens hood ever effectively shade a lens in any case.
