Aperture Series @24mm: Finely Detailed Mosaic
This finely detailed scene at far focus distance at 24mm is an exceptionally demanding subject that makes mincemeat of most lenses, mercilessly revealing every weakness, lack of symmetry, etc.
Most lenses require f/5.6 or f/8 to sharpen the whole mosaic. Often, the mid zones are weak, or the edges, or there is asymmetrical performance; for a lens to have both symmetrical performance as well as a flat field (minimal field curvature) is a serious challenge, thus making a sharp image very difficult on this subject. It is a particular challenge for zoom lenses, which invariably will have some field curvature, often in the mid zones.
