Sony A7R III
Sony FE 24mm f/1.4 GM

Examples: Close-Range Shooting

These initial examples were shot handheld (without IBIS) to look at sharpness and bokeh and overall rendering style near MOD (Minimum Object Distance) of the Sony FE 24mm f/1.4 GM. Most examples are at f/1.4, but some images have dual aperture toggles for comparison.

Images up to full camera resolution.

Grumpy Frog

Wide open at f/1.4, sharpness and micro contrast are very good, particularly for close range where lenses often weaken in performance.

Secondary color is well controlled, but there is significant degradation to color integrity/clarity, discoloring out of focus areas with magenta/green color bokeh; see the area below and to the right of the eye, which is discolored by magenta/green blobs, marring the greenish subject with non-existent magenta blurs. In context of a 24mm f/1.4, it is a very good performance but I would like a cleaner color rendition.
