Customizing keys/buttons can make operation much more efficient than stock configuration, and the Sony A1 offers some of the greatest potential of any mirrorless camera.

The range of customization is so extensive that it’s more about should be left unused, and the balance between frequency of use and remembering what’s what—if a camera goes unused for a few weeks or longer and/or it’s used with a different brand, it’s all too easy to introduce confusion rather than greater ease of use.

Given the wide range of use cases, this page lays out organizing principles so you can arrive at the best solution for your own needs. The examples shown here are biased to my own uses for still photography for landscape shooting and occasional Eye AF shooting.
