Sony A7R IV: Monochrome Conversions, Perspective

How suitable is the Sony A7R IV for monochrome work versus a dedicated monochrome camera like the Leica M10 Monochrom or the Nikon D850 monochrome? This page provides some guidance.

Also, a Sony A7R IV converted to monochrome is a possibility in pairing with a stock Sony A7R IV.

A color camera offers far greater control over the final monochrome image because it starts with vastly more information, namely color and the color relationships, which can be expressed and distinguished in an infinite number of ways during conversion to monochrome, either as one step right in the raw converter or with a Black and White layer in Photoshop. No monochrome camera regardless of filtration can ever approach that level of control over the tonal relationships. That’s a HUGE advantage to shooting in color, at least in theory. The counterpoint is that the strongest monochrome images frequently are mostly about light and shadow and might already be largely monochromatic.
