Pixel Shift Artifacts: Sony vs PixelShift2DNG

With the Sony A7R V, Sony claims that it has improved processing support for pixel shift, using their proprietary software.

What kind of pixel shift results can we get out of the Sony A7R V using the Sony software and also LibRaw PixelShift2DNG? Is pixel shift now a viable option for regular use where motion is involved?

Background

Sony’s pixel shift (4-shot or 16-shot) has none of the smarts as found in the high-res multi-shot mode of the Panasonic S1R or Olympus E-M1. Those cameras do intelligent in-camera processing, producing a single composite raw image, the ideal solution because it is a single raw file (along with a single-shot frame as backup plan), it involves no extra hassle/work, and it is intelligent enough to deal with motion too.
