Distortion correction for pincushion distortion has the side effect of visible loss of micro contrast over all of the frame.

The 35/1.4 GM captures extremely fine detail with high micro contrast. Its pincushion distortion is mild, so correction can usually be skipped. That’s important, because the damage to micro contrast (see crops) is easily seen.
