Sony A7R II
Voigtlander Heliar-Hyper Wide 10mm f/5.6 Aspherical

Examples: Backyard Initial Look (Sony A7R II)

These examples were shot as exploratory frames to get a sense of the overall performance of the Voigtlander 10mm f/5.6.

Close range performance is particularly important, given the need for a very strong and very close foreground (at least in many cases).

Green hose

The lens was racked to its nearest focusing point, which is specified as 11.8 inches / 30 cm, then moved in to the appropriate distance. I then moved about the distance from the hose. Yet focus is perhaps 18 inches more distant than intended. Perhaps a focus shift, as discussed in the Deck Chair series.

Setting aside where focus has ended up, this is f/11 with a 15mm lens. The zone of sharpness should be reasonably generous. What the lens has delivered in the outer zones can be seen in the deck at left and the wall at right: a very thin zone of sharpness at the periphery. It is better in central areas, but the foreground hose is blurred, quite contrary to expectations for the focus distance.
