Voigtlander Nokton 40mm f/1.2 Aspherical

Overview of Voigtlander Nokton 40mm f/1.2 Aspheric

The about $1099 Voigtlander Nokton 40mm f/1.2 Aspherical offers the highest lens speed available for a normal lens on Sony as of early 2018. While f-stop and T-stop are often at odds at f/1.2, and there is heavy vignetting at f/1.2 (a useful feature at times), but there is some modest gain in actual lens speed over f/1.4.

The Nokton 40mm f/2 is beautifully built with metal used everywhere. To my eye, it is far more attractive than the generic plastic build of most modern lense; it feels built to last. It reminds strongly of the Zeiss ZF and ZF.2 line, with Voigtlander’s nice touch of an large knurled focusing ring, excellent bare-handed or with gloves.
