General Observations on SpeedBooster Optical Performance

The SpeedBooster is the real deal, but it is not perfect, nor should one look to see peak micro contrast wide open with most lenses, though some perform quite well wide open.

Getting peak performance

Assuming one isn’t after the ultra-fast ~ f/1.0 look, getting peak sharpness and contrast means the same approach as with the lens by itself on its native format: stop down to f/4 - f/5.6 for peak results, and f/8 for more depth of field. There are always possible exceptions for particularly excellent or for mediocre lenses.

The f-stop here is the f-stop with the SpeedBooster, APS-C:

f/0.9 - f/1.3 — stop down to f/4 - f/5.6.
f/1.4 - f/2 — stop down to f/5.6.
f/2.8 — stop down to f/5.6 - f/8.
