Blue Pre-Dawn Light, Alabama Hills

With the ultra-clear air and bitter cold temperatures, the atmospheric distortion was nil, a relatively rare opportunity. Frustrating though—the rapidly brightening sky gave me perhaps 5 minutes for this lovely balance of light on the foreground and distant peaks. Together with the nearly dark conditions and painfully cold fingers, I did what I could, wishing I had arisen 20 minutes earlier.

The Voigtlander 50/2 APO shows off its stunning edge-to-edge sharpness at the optimal aperture of f/4.5 where is it at its sharpest and as yet unaffected by diffraction. Its outstanding real depth of field yields a deep zone of sharpness as well, an unbeatable combination that even the Zeiss Otus 55mm f/1.4 APO-Distagon would be hard-pressed to match.
