This scene looks at contrast control: lights of large size that are so bright that no detail can be rendered, set against a black sky.

Contrast control is essential for a lifelike image. A lens that can hold bright highlights and black blacks delivers an image with “pop”. A lens that cannot do so is not worth shooting for anyone who enjoys visually persuasive imagery. The foregoing holds even under extreme low contrast conditions, such as in the Lone Horse in Snowstorm image made with the Milvus 100/2M.
