42MP Sony A7R II
Zeiss Batis 18mm f/2.8 Distagon

Shootout vs Zeiss ZF.2 18/3.5 (Pescadero Creek, Weathered Rocks)

This close range focus scene entertains a deep range of detail from very close to quite far, showing off key differences in sharpness and field curvature.

The Zeiss ZF.2 18/3.5 is a relatively old optical design from film days. Its performance, while good, falls short of modern wide angle designs. As a DSLR lens, the 18/3.5 does not suffer from ray angle issues, so it offers a good basis for evaluating the performance of the all-new optical design of the Zeiss Batis 18mm f/2.8 Distagon.
