Sony A7S II (12 megapixels)
Zeiss Batis 25mm f/2 Distagon

Lens Rendering Series: Snowy Beaver Pond in Brilliant November Sunshine (Sony A7S II)

This very high contrast scene used substantial contrast control to tame the contrast, which ranges from dark shadowed areas in the foreground to brilliant white in the clouds.

Snowy Beaver Pond in Brilliant November Sunshine

Adobe Camera Raw 9.2 (486). ACR settings. Camera Profile = Adobe Standard.

Sony SteadyShot disabled, all lens corrections disabled in the A7S II except chromatic correction. Uncompressed raw format. No filtration.

The RawDigger info shows a perfect ETTR exposure, with the green channel bumping up right against the maximum value. With a slight sacrifice of some near whites, another 1/2 stop could have been given, but this is a perfect exposure in terms of maintaining all highlight detail. And more exposure is entirely unnecessary, since the A7S II has delivered clean detail even into dark areas. Examination of the red channel in the blue sky shows hardly detectable noise—superb.
