MTF wide open at f/2 is very good with mild field curvature as shown by the “wave” in the 40 lp/mm lines (bottom pair). It appears that Zeiss has sought relative uniform MTF from center to corners, possibly as a tradeoff for peak MTF.
Stopping down to f/4, MTF rises to high levels, but like other Batis lenses, it does not go beyond about 76% for 40 lp/mm. And yet several Zeiss Loxia lenses achieve levels well over 80% (see MTF for the Zeiss Loxia 25mm f/2.4 at f/2.4—higher at f/2.4 than f/4 for the Batis 40/2).
