This scene shows a number of behaviors: bokeh, flare, sunstars, color saturation into a bright light source. Assessing sharpness is a non-goal here, since the leaves were not still, in spite of efforts to wait for a pause in the light breeze—these trees are not called Quaking Aspen for nothing!

The Planar design is also optically symmetric which tends to cancel out certain aberrations. It is a solid reason to consider the Planar versus the Sony/Zeiss 55mm f/1.8 Sonnar: lenses each draw differently, and a particular drawing style may be well suited to some purposes more than others.
