Zeiss Loxia 85mm f/2.4 Sonnar

Distortion for Zeiss Loxia 85mm f/2.4 Sonnar

Distortion is pincushion (bowing inwards), which is not so pleasant.

The pincushion distortion of the Loxia 85/2.4 exceeds 1% into the corners, which is far lower than the 3% of the Zeiss Batis 85mm f/1.4 Sonnar and only a little more than the 0.8% of the Leica 90mm f/2 APO-Summicron-M ASPH. As for best of breed, the Zeiss 85mm f/1.4 APO-Planar has 0.4% distortion , and the Zeiss 85mm f/1.4 Planar has about 0.2% distortion.

Pincushion distortion is more visually troublesome than barrel distortion. While a 1% pincushion distortion is relatively low and hardly an issue for many subjects, it may be a factor in straight horizons, buildings, etc.
