Sunstar in Lundy Canyon
I shot a dozen or so frames with the sun like this, and all showed the same diffuse sunstar. The diffuse sunstar is disturbing by looking out of focus, yet it cannot be since focus was on the trees and they are bitingly crisp. The diffuse sunstar is accompanied by horizontal banding-like lines, but they do not look like noise. Rather the diffuse sunstar and the color around it and the horizontal lines look like some reflection internal to the sensor. Given the crisp sunstars in other situations (see 2nd example), that is the theory I’m going with.
Setting aside the strange effects, the fine detail in the trees against the brilliant white clouds is spectacular—see crops. Not only that—the shadows have been boosted considerably, showing that the Loxia 85/2.4 holds contrast exceedingly well.
