These examples were shot on the 24-megapixel Sony NEX-7.
Can a 12mm lens (18mm equivalent on full frame) be used successfully for portraiture? The issues revolve mainly around distortion and perspective but also how well the lens avoids distracting off-center effects including too-strong vignetting, color errors, field curvature, and off-center aberration control. Here then is my attempt to use the Touit 12mm f/2.8 Distagon with a professional NYC model while sharing her with a dozen other members of the press! I had a few minutes to give her direction on what I wanted, and no control over background or lighting, the NEX-7 gave me fits, but all in all I am pleased with the results.
The main technical issue that I ran into was the difficulty of using the NEX-7 as expertly as my Nikon D800; camera shake was much more of a problem due to the small size of the camera, with the results of motion blur at the lower shutter speeds*.
