What is the Correct Exposure? Camera Metering is ALWAYS Wrong! 📹

The correct exposure for digital is the one that produces the best image quality: the brightest exposure that does not blow-out the highlights (ETTR).

Camera manufacturers don’t “get” this. None of them do. And still don’t in 2024, even though I wrote this page back in 2012:

The false premise is assuming that a tone must be exposed the same way it is rendered. All automatic exposure modes today operate on this fundamentally flawed premise.
