Focus Shift

This behavior can be repeated on any subject (I shot several examples, this is just one). The focus shift affects all of the frame, including even more central areas. It’s not that sharpness drops where focused—indeed it holds—it’s that the lion’s share of depth of field gains accrue closer to the camera.
