Distortion for Milvus 100/2M
The Zeiss Makro-Planar is all but free of distortion, this 0.2% or so is “distortion free” even in a world where both Leica and Zeiss call a much greater 1% distortion unobservable by the human eye (which is untrue of course).
By comparison, both the Nikon 105mm f/2.8G VR macro and the Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 macro exhibit slight barrel distortion.
Compare also to the pincushion distortion of the 135mm f/2 APO-Sonnar.
This low distortion makes the 100mm f/2 Makro-Planar particularly appealing for architecture, for multi-frame stitched images or any usage where deviation could be visible or a mismatch.
Note that the ~0.1% distortion at macro range (dashed line) can truly be said to be “zero” in the context of “near zero” often being defined as up to 1%.
