36-megapixel Nikon D810
Zeiss Milvus 100mm f/2M

Macro Examples: Impressionistic Macro, High Sierra

Examples shot on the 36-megapixel Nikon D810, all handheld, using higher ISO when necessary.

My intention in showing a large number of examples is to demonstrate the incredible variety possible that occurs only seconds apart in time and inches or feet away, particularly when shooting at f/2.

For creative macro work, I prefer handheld shooting as with all these images. All images shot as single frames just as the lens imaged in the sense of content (nothing added or removed).

Magnification figures in captions are estimates, and may be off in some cases.

The 6480 size is 28 megapixels, which is 88% of the linear resolution of the 7360 X 4912 Nikon D810 originals. These images are spectacular on the 14.2-megapixel display of the iMac 5K.
