Carl Zeiss ZF.2 18mm f/3.5 Distagon T*

Close-Range Aperture Series (Tioga Pine)

Made with the 36-megapixel Nikon D800E at ISO 200 with ~ +0.5 push.

See also the same scene with the 15/2.8 Distagon and the 21/2.8 Distagon; all shot from exactly the same tripod position. The imaging quality shows “genetic” similarities, but the differences in field of view are also interesting. The field of view comparison page shows all three focal lengths compared.

This aperture series was taken at very close range (approximately 24 inches focus). The idea was to emphasize the young tree fighting to survive in a tough high-altitude glacial-till environment.
