Vignetting

Optical vignetting (the lens by itself) is 2+ stops wide open on full-frame cameras for the 18/3.5 Distagon, but the actual amount is greater on a digital sensor. Stopping down to f/5.6 reduces vignetting to a level that should normally be of little or no concern, but further correction can be done during raw file conversion. Aperture f/8 is required to mostly even things out, and improvement can be seen all the way to f/11.

However, optical vignetting never really disappears with the 18/3.5 Distagon on full-frame cameras. This is due to optical design. Also, ray-angle also interacts with digital sensors, and this varies by camera/sensor. It influences both vignetting and color shading (vignetting by color).
