Aperture Series: Green Hills (Nikon D800E)

This apertures series from the 21mm f/2.8 Distagon show the overall performance and field curvature behavior using the demanding 36-megapixel Nikon D800E.

Test scene

A polarizer was used to bring down the brightness of the sky. The scene was shot with and without the polarizer, and aside from color rendition and brightness, sharpness was determined to be identical, so the polarizer is not a factor in assessing sharpness here.

The results seen here support and extend the results seen with the Pine Creek Tungsten Mine example, but this example was chosen to lay it all out without any need for interpretation: the scene is a distant landscape with uniform detail and distances involved, and with focus hardly off from infinity.
