Zeiss ZF.2 21mm f/2.8 Distagon T*

Flare

In general, flare with the 21/2.8 Distagon seems better controlled than with the 18/3.5 Distagon, with much better controlled ghosting.

All examples were made with the Zeiss-supplied lens hood mounted on the lens.

Coronal arc flare

The term coronal flare is an invented one, intended to indicate the arc of orange light seen below. Observe that the arc of red (sometimes orange) is more diffuse at wider apertures and becomes very intense stopped down.

In any outdoor shooting, particularly landscape shooting in high mountains, the sun is very intense, and including it is often desirable. Yet the arc is of substantial size, and worse, a complimentary color to blue sky, making it stand out. This is Not Good. It might also be of concern when shooting with intense artificial floodlights.
