Zeiss Otus 28mm f/1.4 APO-Distagon

Distortion for Zeiss Otus 28/1.4

Distortion is almost invariant from 1:30 to infinity, a boon if one wishes to correct for it.

At infinity, barrel distortion extends to frame edge, flattening to the corners. Maximum distortion is about 1.3%, versus about 2.1% for the ZF.2 28mm f/2 Distagon.

At 1:30, distortion is just a tiny bit more in the corners, and with only a minor deviation in the shape of the distortion curve.

For additional context, the Leica 28/1.4 Summilux-M ASPH has a very low 0.6% distortion, but its distortion is a wave type (barrel reversing to pincushion), which is less natural to the eye. The Leica 28mm f/2 Summicron-M ASPH distortion is very similar to the Otus 28/1.4. The Leica 28mm f/2.8 Elmarit-M ASPH has the lowest distortion of all, at about 0.4%.
