Zeiss 35m f/1.4 Distagon T*

35/1.4 Ergonomics

Operationally this lens fits my larger hands exceedingly well, and it is a real pleasure to operate it. Build quality is outstanding. You won’t find a more impressively built lens available anywhere. The all-metal construction, with stainless steel front and rear matches elegantly with the anodized aluminum body. This is a lens that will outlast the photographer, which is not to say that a hard knock would leave optical alignment unaffected, so it should still be handled with care.

Focusing

Focus throw is superb, with a silky-smooth feel that both still and video users will find very pleasant with the sense of excellent control over focus. The ribbed focusing ring is very generously sized.

The uncorrected spherical aberration at f/1.4 makes the focus somewhat difficult to be sure of, even with Live View. So much so that I was obliged to use f/2 in Live View mode when making the mosaic comparison.
