Shot wide open at f/2 for the bokeh effect and isolation of the subject; background is context and not really needed for the image to communicate the feel. The effect appeals more to me than stopping down (in this case).
Note how field curvature produces higher sharpness at the edges in the distance. Also, the classic magenta/green color bokeh can be seen on out of focus areas in the distance. That effect is very hard to avoid with most every fast lens.
The effects you get— sharpness, or a soft blur, etc, all depend heavily on precise focus, so when shooting at f/2 - f/2.8, be very careful about choosing a point of focus.
