Nikon D7100
Zeiss ZF 50mm f/2 Makro-Planar T*

Performance on 56-megapixel DSLR Pixel Density + MTF (Nikon D7100 + Sony NEX-7, Blue Doll)

This example used the Nikon D7100, which utilizes a 24-megapixel APS-C sensor which does not have an anti-aliasing filter, as well as the Sony NEX-7, which also has a 24-megapixel APS-C sensor, apparently with a weak anti-aliasing filter.

Pixel density of either camera scaled to full frame would be 56.0 megapixels. Thus this example is a reasonabl proxy (perhaps excluding the extreme corners) of what one might be able to resolve with a full-frame 56MP DSLR using the 50mm f/2 Makro-Planar.

Sharpening

Two-pass sharpening was used here to counteract diffraction. Apertures f/2 - f/8 received the same level of sharpening, with apertures f/11 - f/22 receiving increased sharpening as per the technique details in Making Sharp Images in Mitigating Micro Contrast Losses from Diffraction Blur.
