Nikon D810
Zeiss Milvus 50mm f/1.4 Distagon

Aperture Series: Beaver Pond at Dusk (Nikon D810)

This series is taken at medium-far range under very high contrast conditions at late dusk, in bluish light that is a tough test for any lens, particularly on white branches against very dark water.

Beaver Pond at Dusk

Adobe Camera Raw 9.1.1 (461). ACR settings. Camera Profile = Camera Standard. Not corrected for vignetting or color aberrations or distortion.

Wide open, the Milvus 50/1.4 delivers an image with high contrast and sharpness; even wide open, the fine white specks in the dark water all the way to the right side are rendered with very good definition. The overall image contrast at f/1.4 is remarkable. This contrast comes from very high correction for LOCA and spherical aberration (none seen), hence there is no haze or halo effect that would veil the image as with most 50mm f/1.4 designs.
