Zeiss ZF.2 50mm f/1.4 Planar T*

Outdoor Bokeh

The Zeiss ZF 50mm f/1.4 Planar offers bokeh on par with other 50mm lenses—that is to say out-of-focus blur disks with slightly bright edges. Its exact rendition depends so much on the amount of out of focus, as well as the subject matter; the examples that follow let you decide for yourself.

The effect at full aperture tends to lend an embossed 3D effect, which is generally appealing.

Close focus with greatly out of focus background (f/1.4)

This image shows the 50/1.4 focused about 3-4 feet with a background perhaps 10-12 feet away, resulting in a very interesting but busy background look. The look is similar to what I see with some Leica designs, and includes a color bokeh effect of green edges and magenta centers (which occur even with Leica APO designs!).
