Focusing with Live View

Lens tested here was a prototype lens.

Accurate focusing is critical, and this is where Live View comes into play for getting the very best from the 55/1.4 APO-Distagon: a small error shows itself clearly as the knife of sharpness cuts through the wrong areas.

I used a tripod here and shot a number of frames using Live View focusing. While the depth of field is razor thin, I eventually obtained this image before the cat decided to move on.

The superb contrast wide open made this image possible; nothing even close could be made with the 50/1.4 Planar or any Nikon lens; the Canon 50/1.2L might offer a good approximation but would lack the contrast seen here.
