Lens tested here was a prototype lens, but performance would not be expected to change with production lenses.
Does the 55/1.4 APO-Distagon impart its own character to a scene, or does it draw the scene in an unobtrusive way without imparting a fingerprint of its own?
The answer seems to be that by not being there, the 55 Distagon is there— the style or rendition is distinctly its own by being so neutral compared to other ~50mm f/1.4 lenses which impose their own vignetting and aberration fingerprints.
The images that follow are an attempt to show with ordinary objects the way the 55/1.4 APO-Distagon renders without anything to call attention to itself— and by so doing to make its mark.
