Aperture Series: Burghers of Calais (Sony A7R II)

Like all Zeiss ZF.2 lenses, the Milvus 85mm f/1.4 can be used on Sony mirrorless via a lens adapter. Here the Milvus 85/1.4 was adapted to the Sony A7R II using the Novoflex adapter with ASTAT tripod collar.

This scene explores the bokeh (blur quality) of the Milvus 85/1.4, including chromatic aberrations in the out of focus blurred areas.

Burghers of Calais

It’s a fine performance: very sharp, uniform rendition across the frame, gentle transitions in out of focus areas. Secondary color is not absent, but is very well controlled.

Specular highlights in out of focus areas at full aperture (and f/2 in edge/corner areas) show the typical (unavoidable) Cat’s Eye effect.
