Aperture Series: Dead Tree on Granite Slope (S006)
This series was taken in harsh daylight conditions, albeit with cloud shadows moving across the granite. It is a portrait of sorts, with focus on one central subject, the dead tree.

Adobe Camera Camera Raw 9.1 (441). ACR settings. Camera Profile = Embedded. No lens corrections were used.
The camera focused reasonably well here, but it is hard to tell lens performance from a slight focus error. Also, as this range, it is not realistic to expect f/2 to be able to make the tree branches sharp from front to back; some stopping down is needed for depth of field.
Sharpness by f/4 is excellent, but it is f/5.6 - f/6.8 which really make things pop, offering optimal performance (or nearly so) along with enough depth of field for the entire tree.
